(from page 40 of the 1967 Collection) This is a one-off Wimbledon White 1967 Mustang Shelby GT-500 Super Snake prototype car. It was built by Shelby with the intentions of building more. But... it would be too expensive (2x that of the normal Shelby, and more than the 427 Cobra) for the public to purchase, so they only built one. This Shelby was placed on eBay back in 2008 for $3M, but did not sell. It did, however, sell in 2013 for $1.3M at a Mecum auction. (Photos are from Mecum). Why was it built? Many reasons. The GT500 was outselling the GT350 and Goodyear wanted a high speed event to advertise its new Thunderbolt tires. The engine was a 600hp 427ci from the GT40. The fog lights have special chrome surrounds and the blue LeMans stripes are unique.

(from page 40 of the 1967 Collection) And those are actual 7.75x15" Goodyear Thunderbolt tires. As the story goes, this car ran 500 miles at an average speed of 142mph on Thunderbolt tires in the initial advertising campaign event.

(from page 40 of the 1967 Collection) That is a special built 427ci Mk II engine from a GT40. Other modifications include external oil cooler, braided lines, remote oil filter, stiffer springs and shocks on the passenger side (for the oval track event), special rear axle, special transmission, and special exhaust system.

(from page 37 of the 2008 Collection) This is a Performance White 2008 Mustang Shelby GT500 Super Snake coupe dealer modified with Shelby Super Snake custom, GT500KR, and Ford Racing components. The result is a unique Super Snake with over 600hp and 590 ft-lbs of torque. It is also possible to tune up the engine to deliver 725hp. Most of the add-ons are available from either Shelby or Ford, so besides the Shelby factory, dealers, and owners can make their own. The price is about $30K higher than a GT500. As far as value, the Shelby factory upgrade is worth more, but since the parts are available anyone can upgrade a GT500 themselves. Have to be careful about voiding the Ford warrantee, especially with the 725hp upgrade. This White Shelby Super Snake was our featured Attitude Of The Week for August 10th, 2008.

(from page 43 of the 2008 Collection) This Super Snake was our Attitude Of The Week for the week starting May 16, 2010. The Vapor gray/silver 2008 Mustang Shelby GT500 Super Snake was at the 2010 Port Angeles Washington Mustang car show. You can see the Juan De Fuca Strait in the background as well as the ferry to Victoria Island, BC Canada. The Shelby Super Snake has custom, GT500KR, and Ford Racing components to create a unique car with over 600hp and 590 ft-lbs of torque.

(from page 43 of the 2008 Collection) No rear window louvers, but with the rear quarter window panels, it looks better without them. You can get an aftermarket engine performance kit which will increase the horsepower to 725 but void the factory warranty.
